Breast Augmentation

Back to Plastic Surgery

Breast augmentation uses implants to increase breast size, or restore volume lost due to childbirth or weight loss.

There are many reasons why women choose breast augmentation:

  1. Increase the fullness and volume of your breasts
  2. Enhance self-confidence
  3. Balance your figure

Breast augmentation can dramatically improve the appearance of a woman’s breasts. During your breast augmentation consultation, you will learn more about your options for creating your ideal breast appearance, including:

  1. Implant size
  2. Implant material (silicone gel or saline)
  3. Implant position (above or below the pectoralis muscle)
  4. Implant incision method

Breast Augmentation Revision

There are many reasons why women choose implant revision:

1. Unsatisfying Cosmetic Results
In some cases, a woman may not be happy with her previous surgical outcome and needs breast implant correction to correct it. Other women trade older saline implants for a different style of implants like the gummy bear breast implants using cohesive silicone gel.

2. Capsular Contracture
This complication occurs when the tissue that naturally forms around the breast implant, and begins to tighten and constrict, creating a hardened breast that feels and looks misshapen and unnatural.

3. Implant Deflation or Rupture
Though implant rupture is not common, it can occur for a small percentage of women.

Choosing a Breast Implant Revision

Implant revision surgery is a technically challenging procedure that, in most cases, requires greater surgical skill than the original breast augmentation. Dr. Machado uses customized corrective techniques to restore a more natural appearance. It is important that patients follow all safety precautions and take proper care of their implants. Women who receive silicone gel implants must follow the FDA guideline related to periodic MRI screening and return to Prairie Plastic, Reconstruction, & Aesthetic center for their breast implant revision procedure if a rupture is detected.
