Biking – Are you an avid cyclist? If so, April/May is a great time to get that bike into the shop to make sure that it will be road ready as soon as you are. While you’re at the bike shop getting that tune up, why not ask to have the bicycle professionally fitted for you? Seriously – having a bike professionally fitted can improve both efficiency and comfort, making it easier (and more enjoyable) for you to log more hours cycling. And, finally, let’s not overlook safety – spring sales are a great time to purchase a new helmet or bright, reflective gear, or any other gear that you may need for your bike.
Running and Walking – If running/walking is something you like to do, start by checking out your shoes – 300-500 miles is the maximum amount of life/road time in a running shoe. If you’re looking for a bit of “extra” motivation, sign up for a shorter spring road race. You’ll have something that you’re working toward to help with motivation. Just don’t take the training portion too quickly, especially if you’ve been a bit sedentary as of late – start out slow and up your mileage by 1 or 2 miles per week.
Golf and Tennis – If you’re an avid golfer, spring is the time to make sure your clubs are in tip-top shape and that all your gear is in working order. If you find that any of your clubs need repair, head on over to your local golf pro/shop for the help you need. For the tennis players out there, when was the last time you had your racquet re-strung and re-gripped? Spring is also a great time to register for lessons!
Looking for something new? There are TONS of fun activities out there just waiting to be discovered by YOU! From water sports like rafting and kayaking to activities such as hiking and rock climbing, there’s always a way to work something new into your repertoire. Check in with friends to see if there’s anything they’d like to try, too – having a buddy along can sometimes make all the difference in the world when it comes to trying new things.
No matter what you choose to do, please be safe in all your endeavors – we want to hear about all the fun you’re having and NOT all the injuries you’re incurring! Now, get ready for that Nebraska summer weather – we know it’s right around the corner!
