Patrick Hurlbut, MD
Dr. Hurlbut is a board certified orthopaedic surgeon. He completed his residency at the University of Vermont in 1993, and a fellowship in Hand and Upper Extremity Surgery in 1994 at the University of Minnesota. He subsequently earned a Certificate of Added Qualification in Hand Surgery from the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. Dr. Hurlbut has been admitted to that American Society for Surgery of the Hand (ASSH), an elite professional society of hand surgeons. Prairie Orthopaedic & Plastic Surgery, PC and Dr. Hurlbut’s team uses the most advanced treatment options for recovery of maximum mobility, strength, and return of function. Dr. Hurlbut’s passion has been the diagnosis and treatment of shoulder, elbow and hand injuries but he also continues to practice in many areas of orthopaedics including total joint replacement and knee arthroscopy.
Gustavo Machado, MD
Dr. Gustavo Machado is a Board Certified Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon with a fellowship in Hand and Upper Extremity, and Microsurgery. He holds a Certificate of Added Qualification in Hand Surgery from the American Board of Plastic Surgery. He joined the practice from California where he completed an Integrated Residency in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Loma Linda University, and a Hand and Upper Extremity Surgery Fellowship at the University of California Irvine Medical Center. Throughout his years of training he was involved with research and academia and has published several scientific articles and given presentations at national and regional meetings. Dr. Machado is a native of Brazil and received his medical school training in Argentina. He is fluent in Portuguese and Spanish.
Matthew R. Byington, DO
Dr. Matthew Byington is a Board Certified Orthopedic Surgeon with advanced fellowship training in Sports Medicine and Arthroscopic Surgery. He specializes in the non-operative and operative treatment of sports related injuries as well as Knee, Shoulder and Elbowconditions. Dr. Byington treats all conditions of the Knee including acute and complex ligament injuries, cartilage damage, instability as well as chronic conditions such as arthritis. He has comprehensive training in meniscus repairs, ACL reconstruction, multi-ligament reconstruction, cartilage restoration, patella instability procedures, partial and total joint replacement, as well as revision surgery. Dr. Byington has developed an emphasis on Shoulder rotator cuff tears, labrum injuries, instability and arthritis. He has extensive experience ranging from minimally invasive arthroscopic repairs to fracture care to reverse and total shoulder replacement.
Kara Krejci, DPM
Dr. Kara Krejci is a Board Certified Doctor of Podiatric Medicine. Dr. Krejci recently completed a one-year sports medicine, trauma, and reconstructive fellowship at Pennsylvania Orthopaedic Center, in Malvern, Pennsylvania. She also completed residency training with certification in rearfoot and ankle surgery in Scranton, Pennsylvania at Geisinger Community Medical Center where she received extensive training in diabetic foot care, wound care, limb preservation, and deformity correction. Her areas of interest and expertise include: ankle arthroscopy, correction of bunions and hammer toes, treatment of arthritic, nerve, skin and nail conditions, flatfoot and neurologic foot corrections, total ankle replacements, and ankle fracture repair with external fixators. Dr. Krejci enjoys traveling, biking, hiking, waterskiing, and reading. A native of Springfield, Nebraska she is happy to be back in her home state and excited to join the Prairie family.
Lygia Plioplis, PA-C, MPAS
Lygia is a Nebraska Certified Physician Assistant at Prairie Orthopaedic & Plastic Surgery, PC and has been with the Prairie team since 2008. Lygia was born and raised in Sao Paulo, Brazil and moved to Nebraska after graduating from high school. She graduated from Union College with her Master’s of Physician Assistant Studies. She is married and has three handsome boys. Lygia is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants and the Nebraska Academy of Physician Assistants.
Suzanne Sailer, RN, MSN, NP-C
Suzanne Sailer received her Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Nebraska Wesleyan in 1992. She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Creighton University in 1993. She then went on to receive her master’s in nursing education from Nebraska Wesleyan in 2004. Sailer recently received her Master of Science in Nursing at Simmons College this past March. She is now board certified as a family nurse practitioner, is a member of Sigma Theta Tau honor society of nursing, and a member of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners.
Sailer has been a nurse for 23 years in many different capacities. These have included burn, pediatric intensive care, neonatal intensive care, pediatric trauma unit, adult telemetry, stroke unit, rehabilitation, and preoperative review for anesthesia. She has taught didactic nursing classes in pediatrics and health assessment, in addition to being a clinical preceptor. For the past eight years, she has been working in medical aesthetics and is certified in laser therapy and advanced injectables by the National Laser Institute in Scottsdale, Arizona. Sailer is now seeing patients at Prairie Orthopaedic and Plastic Surgery, PC a multispecialty practice offering diagnosis and treatment of upper and lower extremity musculoskeletal injuries, plastic, cosmetic, reconstructive and micro surgery, as well as medical aesthetics services.
Jennifer Price, PA-C
Jennifer Price, PA-C earned a Master of Physician Assistant Studies from Union College in 2016. She has gone above and beyond the requirements of the Physician Assistant Education Association by completing rotations in orthopaedic and plastic surgery. She is certified through the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) and is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants (AAPA) and Phi Alpha, the national honors society of Physician Assistants. With a background in hospitality, aesthetics, and chiropractic medicine, she is a natural fit for Prairie Orthopaedics & Plastic Surgery, PC.
Jennifer is originally from Norfolk, but she has been in Lincoln since she moved in 2006 to attend UNL. She is happily married and enjoys gardening, cooking, yoga, and helping lead worship at her church.
